Ana Valadez

Ana Valadez is a founding member of Call of the Earth Llamado de la Tierra and is an adviser to the Council of Traditional Indigenous Physician and Midwife Organizations of Chiapas (COMPITCH), Mexico. With COMPITCH, Ana has been working on a campaign against the ICBG - Maya Project (International Cooperation Biodiversity Groups) for three years, a project for the biological exploration of the Chiapas highlands.

For eight years, she has worked on the construction and increase of the indigenous communities health workers network for the retrieval of traditional knowledge in the context of autonomy and self-determination of the indigenous peoples. At present, young indigenous peoples are being trained as diplomats and experts in the issues and frameworks related to intellectual property rights. COMPITCH has launched a campaign against the national regulations and territorial rules that thoroughly undermine the indigenous peoples' rights to autonomy and self-determination.
